WHY WON’T WE ALLOW KIDS TO BE KIDS ANYMORE?
This question has been
rolling around my head for a while now.
What has happened that adults must now apply adult behavior standards
to children? It is ridiculous some of
the stories that are coming out these days.
Please read here. I find one of the most disturbing comments
in this story is that the school spokesman calls this a “learning
experience.” For who? I find it extraordinarily
hard to fathom someone thinking a 5 year old child could sexually harrass
anyone. These are kids, and their
childhood is being stolen from them with these adult standards being being
applied to them. It is reminiscent of
this story. A 4 year old sexually harassing a
teacher. Give me a break. Not to mention the dolls for sale in FAO Schwarz
that Kirsten Powers wrote about. Yeah,
that’s a good idea, let’s get our children sexualized at an earlier and earlier
age.
The freedom, joy, and innocence of childhood is short
enough. The selfish people that feel we
should have this progressive instruction with adult standards (that the kids
can’t even comprehend) and rob the kids of that time is a disgrace. There is plenty of time as they get older to
learn about all the problems in this world.
I think back to when I was a kid.
I treasure those memories. I was
hyperactive, I always wanted to be outside playing, but at least back then that
was normal. Not a cause for medicating
a kid. Dodgeball, tag, playing war…..I
did all these things growing up as an outlet for my energy. I did not grow up to be Jack the
Ripper. I like to think of myself as a
relatively normal responsible adult.
It just seems the Big Brother system has other ideas. If you were a parent, how would you feel
about this story? Big Brother robbed these kids and their
parent’s of something precious, that they will never get back.
Here is a small sample from the story.
We are talking about 9 and 10 year olds.
Yesterday the trust's
director Ruth Merttens, defended the content.
She said: "I feel
sorry for the teacher concerned.
"But we produce the
worksheets and it is up to teachers how they use them in class."
She added: "I don't
want to upset anybody but I would say by the age of ten it seems unlikely that
a child wouldn't be aware of Santa's imaginary nature."
Last week a primary
school teacher was sacked for telling her young class that Santa does not
exist.
The supply teacher
apparently decided the pupils - some as young as nine - were too old to believe
in Father Christmas.
The teacher, who has not
been named, is believed to have told the class at Boldmere Junior School, in
Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands: "All of you are old enough to know there
is no Father Christmas or fairies.
If you ask your parents
to tell you they will say there is no such thing.
The arrogance of these words is just staggering. I know better than you. You have no say in the matter. We need to just let kids be kids.
